About Church of St Patrick (Roman Catholic)
The Church of St Patrick is a former Roman Catholic place of worship in Whitby, North Yorkshire. It occupies part of an 18th-century house on Church Street and has held Grade II listed status since 1965. Once associated with St Hilda’s parish, it became a separate parish in 1976. The church closed by 2003 after the property required substantial repairs and was subsequently rented to tenants.
In 1886, the Sisters of Mercy adapted the eastern half of the house as a school for infants. The western half was converted for church use in 1930. Built in brick above a stone base, the two-storey structure has seven bays, a pantiled roof and a parapet finished with a moulded cornice. Its central entrance has a set-back door and rectangular fanlight. Sash windows sit within flush surrounds, while painted brickwork forms flat arches above the openings.
