Our editorial approach

Church Directory UK helps visitors locate churches and prepare for a visit. It is an independent directory, not an official register of any denomination. A listing is not a recommendation, inspection or guarantee that a building is open for worship.

Who publishes the information

Content is published under the Church Directory UK name. Questions and corrections reach the directory through our contact form or hello@churchdirectory.co.uk. We do not claim that every church has been visited, that every guide has been reviewed by a minister, or that our articles represent a denomination’s official position.

Directory records and written guides

Listings combine structured public records with information supplied through our submission process. Available fields may include location, denomination, contact details, service patterns and building history. Coverage varies. A missing field means we do not have the information; it does not establish that a church lacks that facility.

Guides explain practical choices and differences between traditions. Resources linked at the end of a guide help readers check a source or find current local information. Where a denomination’s rules or a congregation’s arrangements matter, consult that body directly.

Use of automation and AI assistance

We use software to import and match public records. AI assistance is also used in drafting and revising some descriptions and guides. It does not create evidence of a visit or of confirmation by a church. Source-based descriptions can still contain mistakes, particularly when similarly named churches are matched. Readers can inspect the linked sources and report mismatches.

We do not create a local history by substituting a place name into generic prose. Where we have only a few facts, the listing shows those facts and identifies missing practical information. We do not infer service times or facilities from a denomination.

Dates and listing status

A guide’s update date records an editorial revision, not the date someone last attended the church. A database update can reflect a correction or an import and is not evidence that a service timetable was recently confirmed.

“Marked as reviewed” indicates that the directory record carries a review flag, for example following an approved submission. It does not certify the identity of every contributor, the safety of a congregation or the accuracy of every field. An entry without that flag should be treated as an unreviewed public-source record.

Corrections and conflicting information

Send the page address, the detail you believe is wrong and a current supporting source. For a timetable, the church’s dated notice or newsletter is useful; for building history, a heritage register entry is useful. If the problem concerns a closure, merger or change of venue, include the new congregation or location where known.

We review corrections against the available evidence. For an imminent visit, contact the church itself while the directory correction is pending. Do not send private information about congregation members or safeguarding cases through a listing submission.

Advertising and independence

Listings are free. Advertising, when enabled, is labelled separately from the content. An advertisement is not a recommendation by this directory, and advertising does not determine the denomination or location assigned to a church. Ads are disabled by default while this content review is under way.
