About St Mary's
St Mary’s is a Church of England parish church on Burgate in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it remains an active place of Anglican worship and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Although associated with a building date of 1350, the oldest surviving fabric above ground has been dated to the 12th century. The arcades may stand on the footings of an earlier structure, possibly of Saxon origin and perhaps connected with an All Saints’ chapel documented in 1115. Much of the church is Early English in character. Its windows were made during the 14th and 15th centuries, while their glass was brought together in the 17th century. Monuments in the chancel date from 1626 and 1729, and the porch underwent restoration in 1938.
