About St Maurice

St Maurice is a Church of England parish church in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire. Dating from around 1250, it is recognised as a Grade I listed building, reflecting the importance of its surviving medieval fabric and later historic additions.

The tower, nave, chancel, arcades and northern aisle originated by the thirteenth century. The southern aisle was added later, while the clerestory belongs to the fourteenth or fifteenth century. Repairs and rebuilding took place between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The interior was restored and provided with new seating in 1868 at a cost of £450, followed by work to the exterior in 1895. Memorials include an oval marble tablet commemorating Catherine Ayers from 1759, together with monuments to Rear Admiral Thomas Shirley, dated 1814, and Colonel John Tufnell, dated 1838.
