About St Nicholas

St Nicholas is a Church of England church on Horkstow Road in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire. The building is recognised for its architectural and historic importance with Grade II* listed status and belongs to the Anglican tradition.

The nave was already in existence by the thirteenth century, while the windows were created during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Significant alterations took place early in the nineteenth century, including construction of the tower’s upper section. A further programme of remodelling followed in 1889 under the architect C. Hodgson Fowler. An earlier Romanesque tympanum was incorporated into the porch and survives in its original position over the doorway, preserving a feature from an older phase of the building.
