About St Luke

St Luke is a Church of England church on High Street in Stamford, Rutland. The church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.

Its oldest surviving element is the tower, built in the early 1100s and containing a bell bearing a Latin appeal to Holy Faith for prayer. The nave, chancel, aisles and south porch largely date from the 13th century, with the nave notably shorter than the chancel. Features include a blocked pointed doorway on the north side, medieval stone seating in the chancel and a 13th-century font. Victorian additions include three quatrefoil openings and a Caen stone pulpit installed in 1864. The pews have carved poppy-head ends. A monument commissioned by Margaret Dale commemorates Roger Dale, who died in 1623, depicting the couple at a prayer desk with their daughters kneeling below.
