About All Saints
All Saints is an Anglican parish church in Stamford, Rutland. It remains a place of worship within the Church of England and is protected as a Grade II-listed building. Nearby, a freestanding masonry arch is believed to survive from the porch of an earlier medieval church. Much of the former settlement, including that building, may have been lost in the period following the Battle of Losecoat Field in 1470.
Completed under the direction of the Revd Richard Lucas, the present building welcomed worshippers in October 1821, although its consecration followed in 1824. Its modest Romanesque design drew inspiration from work carried out at St Peter’s in Tickencote during 1792. The plan includes a porch on the south side, a nave and a chancel, while a small turret above the western end holds one bell. Inside the chancel is a memorial tablet for Joseph Armitage of Wakefield. Money left by Armitage to Lucas, his brother-in-law, contributed to the church’s construction and financial provision.
