About Our Lady Queen of Peace
Our Lady Queen of Peace is a Roman Catholic church on Sheen Road in Richmond, Greater London. It is an active parish church serving East Sheen within the Archdiocese of Southwark. Its position near the boundary between Richmond and East Sheen means that it is also commonly associated with East Sheen. The church gained independent parish status in 1959.
Designed by Frank Broadbent, it was his first church commission. Bishop Cyril Cowderoy of Southwark laid the foundation stone in November 1953, and the building opened on 9 May 1954. It was enlarged in 1963 and consecrated by Archbishop Cowderoy in June 1971. A new hall for the parish was added in 1992.
