About Mary Magdalen
Mary Magdalen serves Ipswich in Suffolk as a place of Roman Catholic worship. Its dedication honours Mary Magdalene, who accompanied Jesus. The church now falls within the Diocese of East Anglia, and Ipswich added the building to its register of locally important heritage in 2021.
The congregation was established in 1956, originally under the care of Saint Pancras parish. Three years after its foundation, a purpose-built church was completed in 1959, giving the new Catholic community its own permanent building. Its subsequent recognition by the local authority reflects the heritage standing it has acquired since its mid-twentieth-century construction.
