About St Peter's Church
St Peter’s Church is a Church of England church on Tollerton Lane, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, reflecting the historic interest of the present structure.
Christian worship in Tollerton predates the Norman Conquest, although the location of the earliest church is unknown. Work on the foundations of the current building began late in the twelfth century. The medieval structure included a tower with a gabled roof, but its nave later fell into ruin after periods of neglect. Pendock Barry began extensive rebuilding in 1812, replacing the nave and adding a mausoleum and a western brick section containing a porch, vestries and a private gallery for his family. The chancel was reconstructed after 1816, while further restoration in 1909 established much of the church’s present appearance. An organ given by W. E. Burnside of Tollerton Hall was installed that year and refurbished during the 1930s.
