About Welford Congregational Church
Welford Congregational Church stands on the eastern side of West End in Northampton, Northamptonshire. Dating from the late eighteenth century, it is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Nonconformist worship in Welford began in 1674, when a congregation gathered at the home of Edmund Miles. A meeting house seating 500 people opened in 1700 and served worshippers from Welford and thirteen nearby villages by the mid-eighteenth century. The current church replaced it on another site in 1793. Constructed in red brick, the building bears a datestone recording that year. Inside, the worship space includes an entrance vestibule and a western gallery carried on cast-iron columns. A Sunday school building was added in 1866.
