St Giles stands on Main Street in Balderton, within Newark, Nottinghamshire. It serves as an Anglican parish church and belongs to the Church of England. Its Grade I designation recognises the building’s exceptional historic and architectural importance. The parish forms a joint benefice with the churches of All Saints at Barnby in the Willows and Coddington.
Originating in the twelfth century, the church retains northern and southern Romanesque entrances made around 1140. A possible image of St Giles occupies a recess above the grander north doorway, though the figure may have been placed there during the nineteenth century. The two nave arcades were built in different medieval periods, while the eight-sided font dates to the early 1300s. Other features include a late fifteenth-century rood screen, distinctively balanced designs on many bench ends, and a large west spire with eight bells. Restoration was undertaken in 1880. The organ fitted in 2010 incorporates both new pipework and pipes from its 1912 predecessor.
