About All Saints
All Saints is a Church of England parish church in Harby, near Newark in Nottinghamshire. It remains part of a local group of parishes and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Edward I provided the medieval church with a chantry in 1294, four years after Queen Eleanor of Castile died nearby. The chantry was suppressed during the Reformation, after which the church served North Clifton as a chapel of ease. By the mid-1800s, the building required substantial repair, and London architect John Thomas Lee designed its replacement in the Early English style. Work started in 1874, with consecration taking place on 2 August 1877. The earlier structure was subsequently taken down, although some of its fabric was incorporated into the new church. A statue commemorating Queen Eleanor stands on the tower’s eastern wall. Canadian cedar shingles were fitted to the spire in 1963, while the roofs were renewed and insulated in 2010.
