About All Saints
All Saints is an active Church of England church at West Markham, in the Newark area of Nottinghamshire. It serves the parish of Markham Clinton and has Grade I listed status. Since 1949 it has once again fulfilled the role of parish church, and it forms part of the Tuxford Benefice with four neighbouring congregations.
The building dates to the twelfth century, with its construction recorded as 1150. Repairs were undertaken in 1872, followed by a prolonged restoration spanning 1930 to 1945. Inside is an organ produced in 1860 by Bevington and Sons. The single bell is suspended from a half-wheel mechanism and rung by swinging. Henry Pelham-Clinton, fourth Duke of Newcastle, was buried here. From 1833, the Milton church and mausoleum commissioned by the duke took over the parish role until All Saints resumed it after restoration.
