About Christ Church
Christ Church is a Church of England parish church in Newark, Nottinghamshire. It serves as the present church for the parish, occupying a site where Boundary Road meets Holden Crescent in Newark-on-Trent.
The parish’s original church was erected between 1836 and 1837 to designs by architect J. D. Paine. Founded in the evangelical tradition, it came under the patronage of the Church Pastoral Aid Society. Newark’s later growth led to the construction of a replacement building in 1956 at the current location. The Bishop of Southwell consecrated the new church two years later. Among its musical features is an organ made by Cousins of Lincoln, equipped with two manuals.
