About Church of St Hilda
The Church of St Hilda is a Church of England parish church serving Beadlam, in the York area of North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and has held Grade II listed status since 1997.
Built in 1882 for £1,119 13s 6d, the church was designed by Charles Hodgson Fowler in a style inspired by the thirteenth century. Its stone walls and tiled roof enclose a nave and chancel, with a porch to the south, a vestry at the north-east and a western tower. The timber bell stage, clad in weatherboarding in 1961, contains one bell and is crowned by a pyramid-shaped spire. Lancet windows feature throughout, while the east window contains stained glass created by Kempe & Tower and installed around 1905. Interior details include an eight-sided stone font and Lady Feodora Gleichen’s 1905 memorial carving for Lilian Duncombe.
