About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is the Church of England parish church serving Appleton-le-Street in North Yorkshire. Dating from the early eleventh century, it remains in use as a parish church and has held Grade I listed status since 1954.
Built of sandstone beneath slate roofing, the church comprises a three-stage western tower, a short nave with two bays and aisles, and a chancel. The surviving tower belongs to the earliest phase, while its arch was widened during the twelfth century. The chancel followed in the early thirteenth century, with the north and south aisles added later. The chancel was reduced in length during the late fifteenth century, and a northern porch was subsequently built. Notable furnishings include a twelfth-century font with a seventeenth-century octagonal lid, altar furniture from 1637, and two fourteenth-century female effigies associated with the Bolton family.
