St Peter is a Roman Catholic parish church on Castle Road, beside Tollergate, in the centre of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It remains in parish use and has Grade II listed status. The wider parish also encompasses St Edward the Confessor and St Joseph’s in Newby and Scalby.
George Goldie designed the present church in the Gothic Revival manner, and construction took place from 1856 until 1858. Fr Walker had first favoured Norman Revival architecture but accepted Goldie’s alternative proposal. The first stone was laid on 3 October 1856, with the building opening in 1858. Further interior work required a temporary closure in 1874, followed by its return to use on 22 July that year. Hardman & Co created stained glass added during 1858, 1874 and 1898. Foster & Andrews of Hull produced the organ, which Nicholson & Co Ltd subsequently rebuilt.
