About Church of St Martin
The Church of St Martin is the Church of England parish church serving Seamer, a village near Scarborough in North Yorkshire. It remains an active place of worship and has held Grade I listed status since 1967.
Dating from the 12th century, the church retains its original nave, chancel and the lower section of its western tower. Built of sandstone and roofed with stone flags, it was enlarged during the 15th century with a north aisle, chapel, vestry and south porch. The tower’s upper stage was reconstructed around 1840, while C. Hodgson Fowler restored and reroofed the building between 1885 and 1889. Notable details include a medieval oak door, a bell cast in 1448, remnants of 15th-century coloured glass, a screen from about 1685 and a brass memorial dating to the 16th century.
