The Catholic Church of Saint Clare of Assisi is a Roman Catholic place of worship at 102 Low Lane, in Middlesbrough’s Brookfield district. It stands near the meeting point of the A19 and A174 roads. Since 2013, the church has belonged once more to the wider St Francis of Assisi parish. Services take place at 6.00 pm on Saturdays and 11.00 am on Fridays.
Thomas A. Crawford designed the sizeable church, which was erected during 1964 and completed in 1965 for £35,000. Gordon Wheeler, coadjutor bishop for the diocese, opened the building on 11 February that year. The church gained its own parish status in 1967 after new homes brought substantial population growth to the surrounding neighbourhood. Its appearance is characteristic of ecclesiastical buildings from that period. Later liturgical changes following the Second Vatican Council included relocating the tabernacle into a dedicated chapel for the Blessed Sacrament.
