About St Oswald's Church

St Oswald’s Church is an active Church of England parish church in Guiseley, within Leeds, West Yorkshire. It belongs to the Leeds archdeaconry and Diocese of Leeds. The building was designated Grade I on 19 September 1962, recognising its exceptional architectural and historic importance.

Its earliest fabric is believed to date from around the end of the 11th century or beginning of the 12th, with additions made in later periods. Constructed from dressed sandstone and roofed with graded slate, the church has a tower at the western end and a nave joined to the chancel. Sir Charles Nicholson oversaw substantial alterations in 1909. Patrick Brontë married Maria Branwell here on 29 December 1812.
