About St Pancras Church

St Pancras Church is an Anglican parish church at Bagborough, near Taunton in Somerset. It stands near Bagborough House, some distance from the village centre. The parish forms part of the Bishop’s Lydeard benefice, alongside Lydeard St Lawrence, Combe Florey and Cothelstone, and lies within the Bath and Wells diocese. The church holds Grade II* listed status.

The present fabric dates largely to the 1400s and is constructed from red sandstone beneath tiled roofing. Its plan includes a chancel, nave and aisle, with three bays and curved timber ceilings. The buttressed western tower has three levels and houses six bells. The southern porch dates from 1643, while a northern aisle was introduced in 1839. Victorian repairs were completed in 1872, followed by work directed by Ninian Comper in 1923. In 1910, communion rails and an organ were transferred from Brompton Ralph. A memorial tablet inside commemorates village servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War.
