About All Saints

All Saints is a Church of England parish church serving Norton Fitzwarren in the Taunton area of Somerset, with an address at Old Brewery. It shares a benefice and rector with St John’s, Staplegrove, and is part of the Bath and Wells diocese. The building has Grade II* protection.

The oldest parts are thought to have originated near the end of the thirteenth century or the beginning of the fourteenth. North Curry sandstone forms the main structure, complemented by Hamstone detailing and a slate-covered roof. Its battlemented tower at the west end rises in three sections, with corner gargoyles, buttress supports, a clock and a vacant image recess. During two restoration phases in the Victorian period, the chancel and porch were reconstructed and a vestry was introduced. Inside are stained glass from the nineteenth century, an arcade resting on eight-sided piers and a divided rood screen from the early 1500s. Its painted lower panels tell the legend of the Dragon of Norton Camp.
