About St Andrew's CofE Church
St Andrew's CofE Church is a Church of England place of worship on Greenway Avenue in Taunton, Somerset. Serving the Rowbarton area, it has been protected at Grade II since 2016.
The building was planned by local architect J. Houghton Spencer and erected during 1880 and 1881, with consecration taking place in July 1881. As the parish continued to grow, E. W. Buckle designed an enlargement completed in 1893, comprising an extra aisle on the south side, a porch at the west end, a chapel and vestry space for the choir. The design follows the Early English Gothic tradition, combining locally sourced West Leigh masonry with Doulting stone trim. Above the tower is an octagonal wooden spire covered in light green Westmorland slate, while a single bell came from John Taylor & Co. Noteworthy furnishings include glass painted by Hardman & Co., a Walker organ dating from 1883 and a 1919 oak memorial screen.
