About Saint Peter and Saint Paul
Saint Peter and Saint Paul is an Anglican parish church at Churchstanton, Somerset, in the Taunton area. Serving within the Blackdown group of parishes, it falls under the Diocese of Bath and Wells. The building is recognised nationally through its Grade I listing.
The present structure originated in the fourteenth century. Its main body contains four bays, while the chancel sits on a different alignment and is covered by a barrel-shaped timber ceiling. Repairs were undertaken in 1719, and a gallery was built at the western end in 1830. The screen separating nave and chancel dates to 1910. Interior fittings include a font of Norman or Romanesque character and a Jacobean-era pulpit. The font features a square basin carved from Hamstone, carried on Purbeck Marble shafts.
