An earlier Norman church occupied the site, with surviving details visible around the southern doorway. The present building largely dates from between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. Its south chapel was added during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, while substantial rebuilding began around 1533. The tower dates from that campaign but remained unfinished, and the nave roof was completed in 1549. A font carved around 1380 also survives from the earlier building. Victorian restoration in 1866 included the removal of a gallery. The churchyard contains surviving portions of a fifteenth-century cross.
