About St Peter's
St Peter’s stands on Kirk Hill in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and serves as a Church of England parish church. Its Grade I designation recognises the building’s exceptional historic and architectural significance. It forms a united parish with St Helen’s at Kneeton.
The church has origins in the eleventh century, with recorded renovation campaigns in 1671 and 1686. Francis Moore replaced the tower in 1778. During 1862, new windows were fitted in the chancel, while the Lady Chapel and space for the organ were reconstructed. C. E. Pointing oversaw additional work in 1901, 1903 and 1914. Wordsworth and Maskell supplied the organ in 1875, and it was refurbished in 1906, 1937 and 1983. Three protected slate gravestones in the burial ground commemorate the Caunt family and bear the dates 1775, 1777 and 1810.
