About St Luke
St Luke is an active Church of England parish church on Main Street in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. It holds Grade II* listed status, recognising its particular architectural and historic importance. The church shares its parish with two other churches dedicated to St Luke, at Broughton Sulney and Hickling.
Built in 1793, the church was commissioned for Henry Noel, sixth Earl of Gainsborough, and designed in the Classical style. It succeeded an earlier church dedicated to St Wilfred, which stood north of Kinoulton Lane. That building was later demolished, but its burial ground survives with 34 gravestones from the eighteenth century. A distinctive feature inside the present church is its single-manual pipe organ, equipped with an automatic barrel mechanism and installed by Cedric Arnold in 1947.
