About All Saints
All Saints is an active Church of England parish church in Northampton, Northamptonshire. Located at the corner of Church Street and Newlands, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building. The parish belongs to a united benefice with Clipston, Haselbech and Kelmarsh.
A priest was recorded locally in 1086, while reused Saxon masonry and a carved burial slab indicate an earlier place of worship. The ornate font dates from the twelfth century, but much of the existing fabric was constructed during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Built mainly from lias rubble and dressed stone beneath slate roofing, the church has an aisled nave with clerestory, a chancel and a western tower. The chancel was reconstructed in 1830, and William Slater designed the recessed spire added in 1859–60. Memorials include a fifteenth-century brass for John Oliyver and his wife, while the north aisle contains a seventeenth-century table associated by tradition with the Battle of Naseby.
