About Saint Wilfrid's
Saint Wilfrid's is a Church of England parish church at Screveton in Nottinghamshire, in the Nottingham area. It remains in active use and shares a parish with St Mary’s at Car Colston. The church belongs to the Fosse group alongside churches at East Bridgford, Kneeton and Flintham, with some services shared with East Bridgford Methodist Church. It is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Originating in the 13th century, around 1250, the church gained its western tower during the 15th century. The tower was subsequently modified towards the end of the 1500s. Restoration of the chancel took place in 1881, followed in 1884 by work on the nave and the addition of a vestry. A notable alabaster monument commemorates Richard Whalley, with carved figures representing his three successive wives and 24 children. Other memorials include those to members of the Whalley family and to Admiral Evelyn Sutton and Roosilia Sutton.
