About St. Wilfrid's Church, South Muskham

St. Wilfrid’s Church is a Church of England parish church in South Muskham, near Newark in Nottinghamshire. It continues to serve the parish and shares a joint parish with churches in Averham, Kelham and North Muskham. The building has Grade I listed status, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural importance.

Dating from around 1250, the church is medieval in origin and was enlarged in stages over several centuries. Its tower clearly reflects this gradual development: the lower part was constructed during the 13th century, the central stage followed in the 14th century, and the upper section was added in the 15th century. This sequence makes the tower a particularly notable record of the building’s changing medieval form. An organ was present by the late 19th century, when James Harston served as organist from 1870 until 1889.
