It belongs to the Church of England and is protected at Grade I, reflecting its significance as a historic building. The church shares a parish with St Denis’ Church in Morton and Holy Trinity Church in Rolleston.
The church has its origins in the thirteenth century, with 1201 recorded as its construction date. Restoration work took place in 1820 and 1867, followed by a further programme in 1893 under the architect Charles Hodgson Fowler. Its organ was made in 1900 by the firm Gray and Davison.
