St. Peter’s Church, Farndon is an active Church of England parish church in Farndon, near Newark in Nottinghamshire. It forms part of the united benefice serving Farndon, Thorpe, Hawton and Cotham. The church is protected at Grade I in recognition of its exceptional historic and architectural importance.
Although its origins date to around 1150, the building records several phases of development. Possible Anglo-Saxon masonry survives within the nave’s north wall, while the pillars and arches of the three-bay south aisle belong to a later medieval church. Much of the present structure dates from the Elizabethan period and is Perpendicular Gothic in character. It includes a chancel, clerestoried nave, south aisle, entrance porch and square west tower. Other notable features include an Early English font, a nave roof dated 1664 and two stained-glass windows. The tower’s original four bells were later expanded to six and rehung.
