About St Michael the Archangel
St Michael the Archangel serves as a Church of England parish church near Newark in Nottinghamshire. It holds Grade I protection for its special historical and architectural importance. The church forms part of the same parish as St Giles at Edingley.
Originating in the Norman period during the twelfth century, the building retains an impressive rounded arch at the entrance to the chancel, which drew praise from architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner. Within the chancel is medieval glazing from the fifteenth century showing Adam and Eve. The fabric underwent restoration over the years 1884 to 1889. In 2010, Jonathan Wallace, working for Henry Groves & Son, fitted a pipe organ in the church.
