About St Andrew’s Church, Eakring
St Andrew’s Church, Eakring serves as an active Anglican parish church in Eakring, within the Newark area of Nottinghamshire. Designated Grade II*, it is part of the Southwell and Nottingham diocese and is grouped with eleven other local churches. Sunday worship is held weekly.
Although Domesday records indicate an earlier place of worship in the village, the surviving fabric was created across the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Its plan comprises a nave lacking side aisles, a chancel and a tower arranged over three levels, with Early English character and Perpendicular detailing. Rector William Mompesson organised essential work around 1670 when the structure was unsafe; the font carries the year 1674. A comprehensive Victorian renovation by James Piers St Aubyn took place during 1880 and 1881, bringing new seating and a vestry. Noteworthy additions include the 1886 organ, the clock fitted a year later, two Elizabethan royal heraldic stones in the porch, and stained glass introduced in 2016.
