About St Lawrence
St Lawrence is a Church of England church in Flaxton, in the York area of North Yorkshire. It serves as an Anglican place of worship in the village. Before its construction, Flaxton was split between the ecclesiastical parishes centred on St Botolph’s in Bossall and All Saints’ in Foston.
George Townsend Andrews designed the church, which was erected in 1853 and 1854. Its stone architecture follows the Gothic forms of the thirteenth century, with the nave and chancel arranged as a single continuous space. A bellcote rises above the western gable and contains two bells. The windows combine slender lancet openings with Geometrical Gothic designs. Among them is a stained-glass window on the southern side created to a design by the Belgian artist Jean-Baptiste Capronnier.
