About Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity is an active Church of England parish church in Acaster Malbis, within the City of York, North Yorkshire. Standing on Acaster Lane, it has been protected at Grade I since 1967.
Christian worship has taken place on the site from at least the 1100s. Around 1320, the Fairfax family replaced the earlier building with the present limestone church, laid out in the form of a cross with a porch on its southern side. Medieval details include a font, surviving traces of painted decoration, a piscina and a 14th-century knight’s effigy believed to represent John Malbys. Glass dating from about 1320 survives in the eastern window, with further historic glass in the south transept. An ornate wooden pulpit was made during the 17th century. C. Hodgson Fowler oversaw restoration in 1886 and installed the timber bell turret and spire. A window designed by Janet Parkin, depicting woodland animals, was added in 2019.
