About Church of St Michael, Coxwold
The Church of St Michael, Coxwold is an active Church of England parish church in the Diocese of York. Located in Coxwold, North Yorkshire, it remains a place of Anglican worship and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
A place of worship has occupied the site since Anglo-Saxon times. An eleventh-century Norman building later succeeded the original church, before the present structure was completed by 1430. Designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style, it is distinguished by its eight-sided tower and an unusually shaped altar rail resembling a tongue. The church also contains the grave of Rear Admiral Lord Adolphus FitzClarence, the son of the future King William IV and Dorothea Jordan.
