About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is the Church of England parish church serving Slingsby, in the York area of North Yorkshire. It remains in parish use and has held Grade II* listed status since 1954.
An earlier church contained Norman and later medieval work, but it was replaced between 1867 and 1869 through the support of Edward Howard. Robert James Johnson designed the sandstone building, incorporating older fabric, including an intact arcade from the 13th century. Its plan includes an aisled nave, chancel, south chapel, porch, vestry and western tower. The three-stage tower is distinguished by buttresses, an embattled parapet, pinnacles, animal carvings and gargoyles. It contains an 1838 clock and three bells cast in 1803. Interior features include a medieval knight’s effigy, a 17th-century oak seat, Victorian pews, a brass chandelier formerly at St Mary’s in Sledmere, and a tower screen installed in 1928.
