About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England place of worship in Ugglebarnby, within the parish of Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby in North Yorkshire. It has held Grade II listed status since 1989.
A chapel stood here from the medieval period and is traditionally dated to 1137, when it was established by Nicholas, Abbot of Whitby. After its demolition in 1870, the present church was finished in 1872 to plans by Charles Noel Armfield, with some masonry from the earlier building reused. Its design draws mainly on fourteenth-century Gothic architecture. Cream and red brickwork is faced with sandstone, while tiles and pantiles cover the roof. The plan includes a nave, chancel, vestry, organ chamber and two-stage north-west tower. Interior features include a Matthew Noble stone reredos showing the Last Supper, an ornate pulpit and lectern, carved pews, stained glass, a hammerbeam roof and a brass altar rail decorated with heraldic animals.
