About Church of St Bartholomew

The Church of St Bartholomew is a Church of England parish church in Norwich, Norfolk. It remains in use for regular services and local worship. Its Grade II* designation, granted in October 1960, reflects the building’s notable historic and architectural character.

Much of the present structure was created in the fourteenth century, with earlier Saxon masonry incorporated into the chancel wall on the north. Flint forms the principal building material, complemented by dressed stone and an Early English design. Fifteenth-century additions include the south aisle, an upper row of windows and the western bell tower. Among the interior features are an octagonal Norman font, a pulpit from the eighteenth century, medieval sculpture and remnants of early coloured glass. A Tudor chest with iron fittings also survives. The bells are no longer usable, but they and their medieval supporting framework remain in place. Memorials recall the Doughty and Barclay families, who were associated with nearby Hanworth Hall.
