About All Saints Church, Thurgarton
All Saints Church, Thurgarton is a former Anglican place of worship in Thurgarton, Norfolk, within the Norwich area. Standing at a secluded crossroads north of the village, it is protected as a Grade I listed building and maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The church originated in the 14th century and is built of flint beneath a thatched roof. Its western tower collapsed in 1882, and a vestry was added in its place in 1924. The roof was newly thatched in 1984 and 1985. The building includes a nave of three bays, chancel, southern porch and western vestry. Inside are medieval benches with carved ends depicting animals, people, barrels and imaginary creatures. Other features include traces of painted lettering, remnants of the rood staircase, a medieval font with an 18th-century cover, and contrasting scissor-braced and hammerbeam roofs.
