About St Lawrence's Church, Snarford
St Lawrence’s Church, Snarford, is a former Anglican parish church in Lincolnshire, near Lincoln. Now redundant, it is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust and is protected as a Grade I listed building. It lies north of the A46, on the route linking Lincoln with Market Rasen.
Founded around 1150, the limestone church has tiled roofs and comprises a nave, chancel, northern chapel and western tower. The tower survives from the 12th century, while later medieval work includes the arches, doorways and windows. Further changes were made during the 16th century, followed by restoration in the 19th. Inside is a 15th-century octagonal font carved with faces, heraldic shields and foliage. Particularly notable are the richly ornamented memorials to members of the St Pol family, including painted and gilded tombs with sculpted figures, armour, heraldry and mourning imagery. An alabaster memorial commemorates Robert Rich, 1st Earl of Warwick.
