About St. Peter

St. Peter is a Church of England parish church in Ropsley, around five miles east of Grantham in Lincolnshire. Dedicated to Saint Peter, it belongs to the Diocese of Lincoln and remains a parish church within the North Beltisloe group. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Founded during the 11th century, the church retains Saxon fabric in its nave, while Norman work includes the later chancel and northern arcade. Constructed from limestone rubble with dressed ashlar, it combines Norman and Early English architecture. Its three-stage tower dates from the 13th century and carries a 14th-century spire. The late medieval south porch, provided by Ropsley-born bishop Richard Foxe in the 1480s, underwent restoration in 1903–04. Inside are a 15th-century octagonal font, medieval glass fragments, an effigy of a 14th-century woman and several war memorials. A replacement organ was fitted in 2010.
