About St. Christopher Bare
St. Christopher Bare is an active Church of England parish church on Marine Road East, in the Bare area of Morecambe, Lancashire. It belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and sits within the Lancaster archdeaconry and the Lancaster and Morecambe deanery.
Completed in 1933, the church was designed by Henry Paley of the Lancaster architectural firm Austin and Paley. Construction cost £5,957. Its Free Perpendicular design comprises a nave, chancel, northern aisle and tower at the north-east corner; an intended aisle on the southern side was not constructed. Many windows echo sixteenth-century forms. Stained glass from the 1930s by Shrigley and Hunt appears in the east window and chapel, while other twentieth-century glass was produced by Lancaster’s Abbott and Company. The two-manual pipe organ incorporates an earlier instrument rebuilt by George Sixsmith in 1984.
