About Morecambe Parish Church
Morecambe Parish Church is the Church of England parish church serving Morecambe, Lancashire. Situated on Church Street, it belongs to the Diocese of Blackburn and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Its origins lie in a chapel established at Poulton-le-Sands in 1745, funded through a bequest from local blacksmith Francis Bowes. Edmund Sharpe designed a larger replacement, completed in 1841 as the population increased. A south aisle followed in 1866, while work in 1897 added the chancel, organ chamber and vestries. Built of sandstone beneath green slate, the church includes a three-stage western tower, lancet openings and a five-light east window. Inside are timber columns, Victorian royal arms, stained glass by several makers and a Westmorland slate altar. A tablet remembers Bowes, while a copper and brass memorial commemorates the South African War. Eight bells have hung in the tower since 1939.
