About St Barnabas

St Barnabas is an active Church of England parish church on Regent Road in Morecambe, Lancashire. Its parish belongs to the Lancaster and Morecambe deanery, within the Lancaster archdeaconry and the Diocese of Blackburn. Worship follows the Church of England’s Catholic tradition.

Designed by the Lancaster architectural practice Sharpe, Paley and Austin, the church was built in stages from 1898, with the chancel, north aisle and five nave bays completed by 1900. A font followed in 1904, while a south aisle and organ chamber were added in 1913. The design uses a free interpretation of the Perpendicular Gothic style, with aisles extending eastwards and nave arches supported by alternating circular and eight-sided piers. A low screen incorporating the pulpit separates the nave from the chancel. Most of the stained glass was made between the 1970s and 1989, alongside reused late Victorian glass. The organ, built by Wadsworth and Brother, has three manuals.
