About St Caian's Church
St Caian’s Church is a small medieval church near Llangefni in Gwynedd, set beside a minor road in the countryside. Dedicated to St Caian, a Christian saint associated with the fifth or sixth century, it remains in use for worship and forms part of a combined parish. The church has Grade II* listed status in recognition of its architectural and historic importance.
The present building largely dates from the later fourteenth century. Constructed of rubble stone, it has a slate-covered roof and a stone bellcote at its western end. Notable features include a fourteenth-century east window, a decorated southern doorway from the late fifteenth century and visible roof timbers dating from around 1600. The circular font is twelfth-century, while the bell bears the date 1717. Stained glass installed in 1916 shows Christ placing a crown upon a knight.
