About Beverley Masonic Hall

Beverley Masonic Hall stands in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, and is protected at Grade II. Formerly a place of Methodist worship, it is now used as a lodge by Freemasons. Its listed designation was granted in 1987.

Erected in 1856 for Methodist Reformers, the chapel came under the United Methodist Free Churches after their union in 1857. That body was absorbed into the United Methodist Church in 1907. Worship ceased there in 1926, when the property was adapted for Masonic purposes. The rendered, two-level frontage has three sections, a raised base and Corinthian-style pilasters. A classical pediment crowns the façade, incorporating a circular panel surrounded by interlaced ornament. The main door is enriched with moulded detailing and an ornamental band, while another circular feature above bears Masonic symbolism. Sash windows complete the composition, with decorative surrounds and panelled treatment beneath those on the lower floor.
