About St Michael and All Angels' Church

St Michael and All Angels’ Church is an active Church of England parish church in Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire. Serving a parish established from the much larger historic parish of Leeds, it follows a liberal Catholic pattern of worship, with choral services on Sundays. The building is listed at Grade II*.

The present church is the third to occupy the site. An earlier chapel, founded on land donated around 1620, was replaced in 1838 as Headingley’s population grew. John Loughborough Pearson designed the current gritstone church, which was constructed between 1884 and 1886 and roofed with tiles. It was consecrated in 1886, while the spire was finished and a porch added on the north side in 1890. The surrounding wall and gate piers have separate Grade II protection.
